Construction of the San Leandro Transit Center is underway! When complete, the Transit Center will offer San Leandro commuters seamless connections to East Bay jobs and schools via BRT, and to Oakland International Airport, San Francisco, and beyond via BART.
The Transit Center, located at the San Leandro BART station, will serve as the BRT’s southern terminus and feature state-of-the-art BRT bus station platforms complete with furniture, artistic enhancements, security cameras, ticket vending machines, and real-time arrival displays. A layover facility will also be constructed, which will provide break room amenities for BRT operators. Construction of the San Leandro Transit Center will be completed by December 2019.
In order to complete this construction in an efficient and timely manner, bus and shuttle loading zones will be temporarily relocated. AC Transit’s Lines 1 and 801 will operate from temporary bus stops on San Leandro Boulevard, as will the City of San Leandro’s LINKS shuttle and the Kaiser Permanente shuttle. East Bay Paratransit and San Leandro’s FLEX shuttle will continue to operate from their current location near the BART entrance. These stops may change during future stages of construction. All bus/ shuttle stops will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible at all times.
Safety is always AC Transit’s top priority. While construction of the Transit Center is underway, transit riders, operators, cyclists, and pedestrians should follow all construction signs and not enter any construction areas.
BRT’s innovation, frequency, and reliability are certain to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors of Oakland and San Leandro, and AC Transit is excited to unveil this unrivaled service by the end of the year!
